5 Things I Learned From Fitness That I Applied As A Franchise Owner In Business

1. Community Is Everything.

In fitness, having a supportive fitness community can significantly improve your chances of success. Like-minded people who you engage with on a regular basis that share similar goals can provide motivation, encouragement, and accountability, making it easier to stay committed and enjoy the process!

One reason my wife and I became franchise owners is we were welcomed into a community of business owners that share the same common goals. The connections we have made have really been amazing!


2. Consistency is Key

If you have been following me for awhile or have read my book, Belief Mode, you have heard me say, you must build a foundation of consistency over bursts of intensity. This right here IS the secret of fitness!

For the gyms we own... Whether it’s maintaining gym cleanliness, providing excellent customer service, or ensuring we offer outstanding fitness knowledge and support; consistency helps build trust and reliability.


3. Be Adaptable.

Being adaptable in your fitness journey is essential for overcoming inevitable hardships and challenges. Life throws curveballs—injuries, busy schedules, or even a loss of motivation. By staying flexible and open to change, you can adjust your workouts, modify your diet, and find new sources of inspiration. I also recommend getting a coach to help you navigate some of the challenges.

This was a huge one for us. My wife and I have experienced A LOT of surprises. The challenges we face as gym owners from the cost of construction and labor on a buildout going 4 times over budget to unexpected equipment failures to sudden shifts in member preferences.... being adaptable allows us to navigate these hardships effectively. Staying positive, being resourceful, and asking our fitness community for advice ensures we can pivot quickly and keep the gym running smoothly, no matter what comes our way.

4. Information Driven Actions

Tracking your progress through data, such as workout logs, measurements, and nutritional intake, helps you make informed decisions about your fitness journey. Analyzing this data allows you to adjust your approach and optimize your results.

For our gyms we have a weekly progress report where we utilize data from membership trends, feedback, and financial reports helps make informed decisions that improve operations and member satisfaction.


5. Unshakable Belief

Cultivating an unshakable belief in your ability to achieve your fitness goals is transformative. This belief fuels your motivation, keeps you committed during tough times, and helps you push through obstacles. By embracing the Belief Cycle, you reinforce positive thinking, visualize your success, and build the mental resilience needed to stay on track and achieve lasting results.
